We said we wouldn’t keep you waiting too long! Here’s the details, so now you can really get involved!
Starting on Wednesday 17th March is a weekly 5-part Zoom course where you can learn the ETE21 theme song Melius Una (“Better Together”/”Better as One”) directly from the composer, Jonathan Kirby.
Starting at 8pm CET (7pm UK time), each lesson will last for up to 60 minutes. Course documentation will be provided, as well as access to weekly practice videos.
The course will be taught with only very careful use of English, to make it as accessible as possible to non-native speakers of English. Each part of the song will be taught with on-screen kuchi shoga, then by demonstration and then by playing along to a soundtrack.
You are very welcome to learn and play the song without being at the Expo: It is a piece open to everyone, and free for anyone to play or perform with their group!

Die erst von insgesamt fünf wöchentlichen Sessions startet am Mittwoch dem 17. März. Lerne den ETE21 Themensong Melius Una (“Better Together”/”Better as One”) direkt vom Komponisten Jonathan Kirby.
Die Sessions starten um 20:00 (19:00 UK time) und dauern ca. 60 Minuten. Über den gesamten Kurs hinweg werden für jede Session Lehrmaterialien und Übungsvideos den Teilnehmern bereitgestellt.
Für den Kurs sind selbst die geringsten Englischkenntnisse ausreichend, da wir die Sessions so zugänglich wie möglich gestalten wollen und daher nur so viel wie Nötig auf Englisch kommunizieren werden. Sämtliche Bestandteile des Stücks werden zunächst durch Kuchi Shoga auf dem Bildschirm vorgestellt, danach demonstriert und anschließend durch das Spiel zum vollständigen Audiotrack des Stücks vermittelt.
Der Onlinekurs ist für jeden offen – auch für Personen, welche nicht an der ETE21 teilnehmen können. Melius Una ist ein offenes Stück und jeder ist eingeladen den Song mit seiner Gruppe einzuüben, zu spielen und aufzuführen!

How to sign up / Anmeldung:
Option 1: Book Early for the Whole Course
Sign up via the link on the left until the 10th March to benefit from the cheapest option – £40 GBP for the 5 sessions. This link will be removed and replaced with a £50 option on Thursday 11th March. 10% of all proceeds will be donated towards the production costs of the European Taiko Expo.
Option 1: Frühbuchung für den gesamten Kurs
Frühe Anmeldung zum Kurs bis zum 10. März für einen Preis von nur £40 GBP für 5 Sessions. Ab dem 11. März beträgt die Kursanmeldung £50. 10% aller Einnahmen werden zur Unterstützung der Produktionskosten an die European Taiko Expo weitergeleitet. Sämtliche Kursanmeldungen laufen über den Link (links), welcher am 11. März von der Frühanmeldung zur regulären Anmeldung aktualisiert wird.
Option 2: Book the First Lesson Only
If you’re not sure if this is for you, book yourself onto the first lesson only, for £15 GBP. If you find you like it, you can then book the remaining sessions for £40 GBP. As above, 10% will be donated to European Taiko Expo.
Option 2: Buchung der ersten Session
Für alle die sich noch unsicher sind, ob sie sich für den gesamten Kurs anmelden wollen: Buchung für die erste Session des Online-Kurses für £15. Anschließend können die restlichen Sessions des Kurses für £40 nachgebucht werden. Auch hier werden 10% der Einnahmen an die European Taiko Expo weitergeleitet.
In Case You Are Wondering…
Melius Una is Latin. It’s a song for the Euro Taiko Expo, so it seemed appropriate to give it a name in a European language. OK, so the Romans didn’t ever conquer Germany, Denmark, Sweden or a few other European countries, but at least Latin isn’t English!! -JK

If I book and cant manage a session can access the lesson by a recording

“after every lesson, I will share PDF notes with all the participants, as well as links to specially-prepared videos to help you practice what’s been taught in the lesson. If you miss a session, you will still get these materials, and since there will be a bit of revision at the start of each session, you will have a good chance to catch up.
